Missionary Scholarship Requirements and Information

NOBTS offers missionary scholarships for those who are or have been employed by the International Mission Board and the North American Mission Board. The award amounts and requirements are dependent upon the categories of missionary invovlement listed below. Please review the following categories and apply for the appropriate one using the scholarship link at the bottom of this page. 

The deadline for the NOBTS Missionary Scholarship and required supplemental materials are as follows: August 1 for the fall semester and January 1 for the spring semester. 

 

Active Career International Mission Board (IMB) Scholarship 

  1. What does it offer?

    • The Active Career IMB Missionary Scholarship provides up to 100% coverage of a student’s tuition and internet fees for undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students.

  2. Who is eligible?

    • The Active Career IMB Missionary Scholarship is available to career IMB missionaries/personnel who are fully-funded, full-time, and currently serving on the mission field or on a stateside assignment. Students who are completing or have completed their field personnel orientation at the International Learning Center are considered eligible as well.
    • Applicants must be degree-seeking in an undergraduate, graduate, or advanced degree program.

    • The Active Career IMB Missionary Scholarship can be applied to both on-campus and distance courses.

    • Recipients of the Active Career IMB Missionary Scholarship may be enrolled at full-time or part-time status.

    • The Active Career IMB Missionary Scholarship is applicable to one degree per degree program level pursued at NOBTS.

  3. Other Important Details

    • Recipients will be required to resubmit a verification of employment letter from the IMB annually. If the student loses employment status with the IMB, he or she will no longer be eligible for the scholarship.

    • Recipients will be responsible for paying any charges that may be incurred as a result of any removal of the scholarship, including any withdrawals.

    • Students who have a break of a semester or more in their enrollment will be required to reapply for the scholarship.

    • This scholarship is only applied to tuition and internet fees. It does not apply to registration fees, student service fees, housing, books, meal plans, etc.

    • This scholarship provides up to 100% coverage of a student's tuition and internet fees. If a student receives other NOBTS scholarships, they will be applied to the student’s account first and the Active Career IMB Missionary Scholarship will be reduced so that a total of 100% of the student’s tuition and internet fees are covered. Non-institutional aid, such as scholarships from outside foundations or from your church can be stacked on your missionary scholarship. Scholarship totals cannot exceed a semester’s educational expenses. 

 

 

Returning Journeyman/International Service Corps (ISC) Scholarship

  1. What does it offer?

    • The Returning Journeyman/ISC Scholarship provides up to 75% coverage of a student’s tuition and internet fees.

  2. Who is eligible?

    • The Returning Journeyman/ISC Scholarship is available to any student who has completed their full Journeyman/ISC term assignment and has a vocational commitment to serving churches and fulfilling the Great Commission.

    • Applicants must be an active and participating member of a local Southern Baptist church.

    • Applicants must be degree-seeking in a Master’s level program.

    • Recipients of this scholarship must enroll in the qualifying number of credit hours for their degree program each semester (9 credit hours for graduate students).

    • The Returning Journeyman/ISC Scholarship can be applied to both on-campus and distance courses.

    • Applicants must apply within three years of returning from their completed field assignment.

    • The Returned Journeyman/ISC Scholarship can be applied towards only one degree at NOBTS.

  3. Other Important Details

    • Recipients will be responsible for paying any charges that may be incurred as a result of any removal of the scholarship, including any withdrawals.

    • This scholarship provides up to 75% coverage of a student's tuition and internet fees. If a student receives other NOBTS scholarships, they will be applied to the student’s account first and the Returned Journeyman/ISC Scholarship will be reduced so that a total of 75% of the student’s tuition and internet fees is covered. Non-institutional aid, such as scholarships from outside foundations or from your church can be stacked on your missionary scholarship. Scholarship totals cannot exceed a semester’s educational expenses.

 

 

North American Mission Board (NAMB) Scholarship

  1. What does it offer?

    • The NAMB Missionary Scholarship provides up to 50% coverage of a student’s tuition and internet fees for undergraduate and graduate students and up to 30% coverage of a student’s tuition and internet fees for doctoral students.

  2. Who is eligible?

    • The NAMB Missionary Scholarship is intended for NAMB missionaries/personnel who are serving on field assignment and who are degree-seeking in an undergraduate, graduate, or advanced degree program. (Selection of recipients is dependent upon level of involvement with NAMB and endorsement by NAMB administration.)

    • The NAMB Missionary Scholarship can be applied to both on-campus and distance courses.

    • Recipients of this scholarship may be enrolled at full-time or part-time status.

  3. Other Important Details

    • Recipients will be required to resubmit a verification of employment letter from NAMB annually. If the student loses employment status with NAMB, he or she will no longer be eligible for the scholarship.

    • This scholarship provides up to 50% coverage of a student's tuition and internet fees for undergraduate and graduate students and up to 30% coverage of a student's tuition and internet fees for doctoral students.  If a student receives other NOBTS scholarships, they will be applied to the student’s account first and the NAMB Missionary Scholarship will be reduced so that a total of 50% or 30%, respectively, of the student’s tuition and internet fees are covered. Non-institutional aid, such as scholarships from outside foundations or from your church can be stacked on your missionary scholarship. Scholarship totals cannot exceed a semester’s educational expenses. 

 

 

Missionary Kid (MK) Scholarship

  1. What does it offer?

    • The Missionary Kid (MK) Scholarship provides up to 100% coverage of a student’s tuition and internet fees.

  2. Who is eligible?

    • The MK Scholarship is available to children of “active-duty”** IMB or NAMB missionaries who are serving on the mission field.

      • “Active-duty” for IMB means career IMB missionaries/personnel who are fully-funded, full-time, and currently serving on the mission field or on a stateside assignment. Those who are completing or have completed their field personnel orientation at the International Learning Center are considered eligible as well.

      • “Active-duty” for NAMB means NAMB missionaries/personnel who are currently serving on field assignment. (Selection of recipients is dependent upon level of involvement with NAMB and endorsement by NAMB administration.)

      • Current MK recipients whose parents may retire from the IMB or NAMB while completing their degree will maintain their MK scholarship for the duration of their degree.

      • **Children of retired full-time IMB or NAMB personnel may receive a scholarship for up to 25% coverage of tuition and internet fees.
    • Applicants must be degree-seeking in an undergraduate or graduate program. The MK scholarship is not applicable toward doctoral coursework.

    • Recipients of this scholarship must enroll in the qualifying number of credit hours for their degree program each semester (12 credit hours for undergraduate students; 9 credit hours for graduate students).

    • This MK scholarship can be applied to both on-campus and distance courses.

    • The applicant must be active and participating members of a local Southern Baptist church.

    • The student’s qualifying age limit is 30-years-of-age upon enrollment.

    • The MK scholarship can be applied towards only one degree at NOBTS.

    • The scholarship is not applicable to the spouse of the qualified child of missionaries.

  3. Other Important Details

    • Recipients will be required to resubmit a letter verifying their parents’ employment with the IMB or NAMB annually.

    • Recipients will be responsible for paying any charges that may be incurred as a result of any removal of the scholarship, including any withdrawals.

    • Students who have a break of a semester or more in their enrollment will be required to reapply for the scholarship.

    • This scholarship is only applied to tuition and internet fees. It does not apply to registration fees, student service fees, housing, books, meal plans, etc.

    • This scholarship provides up to 100% coverage of a student's tuition and internet fees. If a student receives other NOBTS scholarships, they will be applied to the student’s account first and the MK Scholarship will be reduced so that a total of 100% of the student’s tuition and internet fees are covered.
